The Festa do Pemento de A Arnoia has become the star of a university study carried out at the Catalan university UOC.

Under the title “Popular events in times of Covid-19. Analysis of the Festa do Pemento of A Arnoia, Ourense”, a Master’s Thesis (TFM) has just been presented at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, in Barcelona, which will be published shortly, revealing the findings and conclusions of its research.

The Festa do Pemento de A Arnoia caught the attention of the university researchers as it was one of the few popular gastronomic events held last year in all of Spain. It should be remembered that in 2020, emblematic festivities such as the Fallas of Valencia or Holy Week had to be cancelled nationwide, and in Galicia celebrations with such tradition as the Festa do Pulpo of O Carballiño or the San Froilán in Lugo had to be suspended.

It should also be highlighted that during the Festa do Pemento de Arnoia 2020 no contagion occurred, since this celebration was equipped with all the hygiene and health precautions and controls in order to ensure maximum control and complete safety for all attendees.

The event, organised as is traditional by the Town Council of A Arnoia, had for the first time the advice and coordination of the Ourense-based agency SOC – Smile & On Fire Comunicación.

The Festa do Pemento da Arnoia took place on the first weekend of August last year, reaching its 41st edition. During the event, attendees, in addition to tasting the local peppers prepared in a wide variety of ways, could also enjoy the wine of the D.O. Ribeiro, the mineral-medicinal waters and treatments of the Arnoia Caldaria Hotel Balneario, and a novel river cruise along the waters of the river Miño on Ecobarco do Ribeiro, equipped with the most advanced sustainable technology.
